What is cotton canvas fabric? What are the characteristics of cotton canvas fabric?
What is cotton canvas fabric? What are the
characteristics of cotton canvas fabric? Many Pomoly users have asked these two
questions. Today we will talk about this cotton canvas. Cotton canvas is a
canvas woven from cotton material. Cotton refers to clothing or articles with a
cotton content of 95%-100%. Canvas is thicker cotton or linen fabric. Named
because it was originally used for sails. Generally, plain weave is used, and a
small amount of twill weave is used. Multi-strand yarns are used for warp and
weft yarns.
Canvas fabric is usually divided into two
categories: coarse canvas and fine canvas. In addition, there are rubber
canvas, shielding canvas for fire and radiation, and canvas for paper machines.
Coarse canvas, also known as tarpaulin, is
commonly woven with No. 58 (10 British branches) 4-7 strands. The fabric is
firm and resistant to folding and has good waterproof performance. It is used
for automobile transportation and open-air warehouse cover and camping hot tents in the
field.
Fine canvas warp and weft yarns are
generally 2 strands No. 58 to 6 strands No. 28 (10 British counts/2 to 21
British counts/6), which are used to make labor protection clothing and its
supplies. After dyeing, it can also be used as fabrics for shoes, travel bags,
backpacks, etc.
Canvas yarn count
In short, yarn count refers to the
thickness of the yarn. When a pound (454 grams) of cotton yarn (or other
component yarn) is 840 yards (0.9144 yards/meter) in length, the yarn fineness
is one. If a pound of yarn has a length of 10×840 yards and a fineness of 10
yarn counts, the yarn count is represented by the English letter "S"
as the symbol for the British system; the single yarn is represented by 32
yarns. Yarn is expressed as 32S, and the way of expressing strands is: 32
strands (two twists in parallel) is 32S/2, and 42 strands and 3 twists are
42S/3.
Canvas density
The fabric density of canvas is calculated
in the metric system, which refers to the number of warp and weft yarns
arranged in one square inch. The density directly affects the appearance, feel
thickness, strength, flexural resistance, air permeability, abrasion resistance
and thermal performance of the fabric, and other physical and mechanical
indicators. At the same time, it is also related to the cost of the product and
the size of the production efficiency.
The main reason why Pomoly uses cotton
canvas as the thermal hot tent fabric is mainly that the cotton canvas is very
strong. Canvas hot tents can withstand strong winds, obstacles, and tears. When
treated with a waterproof coating, they can also protect against rain.
Pomoly's cotton canvas is different from
traditional canvas, using 70% cotton and 30% polyester as raw materials.
Moreover, a waterproof coating is added to the surface of this fabric, so that
rainwater can easily fall to the bottom when it touches the surface of the hot tent, and the water resistance is very good.
After the new upgrade in 2021, Pomoly's
cotton canvas has better high-temperature resistance, and the material and
sewing process has been changed.
